Bavarian School Project

For over 23 years, the Cambridge Institut’s Bavarian School Project has given students across Bavaria the opportunity to gain internationally recognised Cambridge English qualifications. Students at Realschulen can take the Cambridge B1 Preliminary (PET) examination, while students at Gymnasien and FOS/BOS can take the Cambridge C1 Advanced (CAE) examination. 

Supported by the Bavarian Ministry of Education and dedicated English teachers, the Cambridge Institut coordinates the examinations, working closely with schools, candidates, teachers, and the University of Cambridge. Today, more than 5,000 students take part in the examinations each year at centres throughout Bavaria.

If you would like to become a Cambridge English Speaking Examiner as part of the Bavarian School Project, the Cambridge Institut in Munich offers regular training and certification sessions. These are led by highly experienced Cambridge English Team Leaders and prepare teachers to conduct Cambridge English Speaking examinations.

Requirements

To become a Speaking Examiner, applicants should:

• have English language proficiency appropriate to the examination level (CEFR C1 for B1 Preliminary examinations and CEFR C2 for C1 Advanced examinations);
• be qualified full-time teachers of English as a Foreign Language;
• have at least 1,800 hours of recent English teaching experience, including teaching regularly over the past two to three years;
• attend an initial half-day training session for each examination level;
• complete annual certification, consisting of a half-day session together with a mandatory online assessment for each exam level; and
• be available to examine on 6th and / or 13th March 2027 (CAE exams)
• be available to examine on 17th and / or 24th April 2027 (PET exams) 

The process consists of six stages:

1. Application
2. Training and certification
3. Confirmation of examination dates and venues
4. Examining
5. Billing
6. Ongoing monitoring

Before you can do any live examining, you will be invited to complete Induction, Training, and Certification of Procedure and Assessment modules. These modules will be delivered via meetings with our Team Leaders starting in autumn for the 2026 exams.
